Stan Douglas recently celebrated his 85th birthday. Born in 1922 he has been playing for the band for 73 years! He is still an active member, turning out for most the Band’s engagements. On Friday 14th September 2007 the band gave their rehearsal a miss to celebrate the event. A room was hired at a local pub where the band played Stan’s favourite music. A fish and chip supper was then consumed, washed down by the local brew. Cathy O’Carroll then presented Stan’s achievements to the Band members and his many friends (pictured top right).
He had the audience in stitches reminiscing his escapades with the Band. He was presented with a birthday cake and proceeded to blow the candles out in one go (pictured left), probably due to all those years playing the trombone and then the tuba.
The Band had a barbecue on Friday 11th July 2003 in Alan Vincent’s magnificent garden. The weather was kind to us and everyone had a great time. The date coincided with Brenda Cooke’s 60th birthday, here she is, pictured left cutting her cake. As she is the Band’s drummer it was reportedly mentioned that “she must be the oldest rocker in Bagshot”.
